Reddit posts
Text, image, gallery, video and link posts that respect each community: a clear title, real value and no hard sell.
Reddit is a collection of communities with their own rules and culture. Posts that do well add something to the community; posts that look like ads are downvoted or removed.
Five rules apply to every format: hook first, stay consistent, tell a complete story, end with a call to action and design for the phone. Read the five rules
At a glance
| Spec | Recommended |
|---|---|
| Title | 300 characters |
| Media per post | Up to 20 images in a gallery, or one video |
| Set per post | Subreddit (and flair, if it requires one) |
Hook
- The title is everything. It’s what people see and vote on. Make it specific and honest.
- Match the subreddit’s tone. Read the top posts before you post.
- Lead with value. Share what you learned, made or found, not what you’re selling.
Design and edit
- Use media that explains. Screenshots, charts and before-and-after images do well.
- Use a gallery for steps. Several images in one post keep the story together.
- Skip the polished ad look. Redditors trust plain, real content.
Caption and copy
- Add context in the body. Explain what you’re sharing and why.
- Follow the rules on self-promotion. Each subreddit sets its own; read them first.
- Use the right flair. Some subreddits require it and remove posts without it.
Timing and cadence
- Post when the community is active. Early votes decide whether a post rises.
- Stay to answer comments. Being part of the discussion builds trust.
