Publishing and scheduling require a complete preview and your explicit confirmation.

Connect ChatGPT or Claude

Octapost connects your assistant to your existing social-content workspace. An active paid Octapost subscription is required. Use your usual account and connected social accounts. Trial subscriptions do not grant MCP workspace access.

ChatGPT: install Octapost when its public listing is available, or add the URL as a custom MCP app through developer settings during testing.
Claude: install the Octapost connector when listed, or add the URL through Settings → Connectors during testing.
Sign in to Octapost and review the consent screen. OAuth client registration happens automatically; users do not need an API key or a Supabase app.

Public directory availability depends on each platform’s review. Custom connector availability depends on your assistant plan and workspace settings.

Permissions and billing

Assistants can read accessible workspaces, brand context, accounts, posts and assets; create drafts and editable designs; import media; read cached analytics; and, when enabled, publish or schedule after confirmation. Current workspace roles and subscription limits apply on every action. Image generation for social designs uses your existing AI credits.

If you have multiple workspaces, tell the assistant which one to use. Publishing requires owner, admin or editor access. Identity scopes such as email and profile do not grant additional workspace permissions.

Disconnect an app in Settings → Connected apps. Disconnecting stops new commands and invalidates its connection. Previously confirmed scheduled posts remain scheduled; manage them in your calendar.

Preview and confirm publication

Ask, for example: “Draft a LinkedIn announcement in our brand voice.” Then: “Preview scheduling this draft to our company account next Tuesday at 10:00 Europe/Lisbon.”

The assistant must show the content, media, exact accounts and channels, visibility/disclosures, and publication time. Confirm only after reviewing that preview. Previews expire after ten minutes; edits or changed permissions require another preview. Ambiguous times need clarification, including the timezone and UTC offset.

Immediate publication is queued durably. Ask for the action status to see per-account results. Queued, processing and uncertain results do not mean published. If a result is uncertain, check the destination network and Octapost before retrying.

TikTok visibility remains SELF_ONLY while the integration is unaudited. YouTube visibility/audience and other provider-required settings must be explicitly chosen.

Cached analytics

Ask: “Show our workspace analytics for the last 30 days and the top posts.” Requests cover at most 90 days, return bounded pages and use cached snapshots rather than refreshing providers. Cumulative counts are not automatically new engagement earned during the selected period.

Check synchronization timestamps before making comparisons. Slack and Discord have no analytics; Google Business has no per-post metrics. Missing or unsupported metrics must not be interpreted as zero engagement.

Troubleshooting and support

Permission upgrade required: disconnect the old draft-only connection, reconnect and approve the current consent screen.
Publishing disabled: use the dashboard while the rollout flag is disabled.
Unavailable account/channel: reconnect it in Octapost and prepare a fresh preview. The assistant will not substitute another account.
Stale preview: request a new preview after editing the post or changing destinations.

Contact support@octapost.app with the action UUID and error message. Never send passwords, access tokens or social-account credentials.
