ChatGPT & Claude (MCP)

Connect ChatGPT, Claude or any MCP app to Octapost and let it write post drafts, design editable templates and thumbnails, and create images.

What it is

Octapost is an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI apps use to connect to other software. Once you connect Octapost, you can ask your assistant in plain words and it works inside your workspace for you.

It writes post drafts, designs templates and YouTube thumbnails as real, editable layers in the image editor, and creates or imports images. It only ever saves drafts: you review, edit and schedule everything yourself.

Connect your assistant

Every assistant uses the same connection URL: https://www.octapost.app/api/mcp. You can also copy it from MCP connection in the dashboard sidebar. The first time, your assistant opens an Octapost sign-in: approve access and you are done.

Custom connectors may require a paid ChatGPT or Claude plan, and on team plans an admin may need to allow them first.

ChatGPT

Enable developer mode

In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced and turn on Developer mode.

Create the connector

Click Create, name it Octapost, paste the connection URL and choose OAuth for authentication.

Use it in a chat

In a new chat, turn on Octapost from the + menu and ask away.

Claude

Add a custom connector

On claude.ai or Claude Desktop, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.

Paste the URL and connect

Name it Octapost, paste the connection URL, click Connect, sign in to Octapost and click Allow.

Enable it in a chat

Turn on Octapost from the tools menu in a chat and ask away.

Other MCP apps

Any app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth (Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and others) can connect. Add a remote (HTTP) MCP server with the connection URL and approve the Octapost sign-in when it opens.

Your assistant reads your brand voice, colours, fonts and best-performing posts before it writes or designs. Some things you can ask:

Where images come from

Your assistant picks the source on its own:

An image you attach in the chat, or one ChatGPT generated, is imported into your asset library.
A link (Higgsfield, Midjourney or any image URL) is imported.
Something you already have, like your logo, comes from your asset library and brand kit.
Otherwise Octapost generates the picture, can remove its background, and places it in your design.

You stay in control

Assistants can only save drafts. They cannot schedule or publish.
They act with your permissions in the workspaces you belong to, and read-only members cannot create anything.
Designs stay fully editable in the image editor, and edits to a design you changed meanwhile are refused instead of overwriting yours.

To disconnect an assistant, open MCP connection in the dashboard sidebar and click Disconnect next to it.

AI tokens

Writing is done by your own assistant and does not use Octapost AI tokens. Generating images and removing backgrounds use your workspace’s AI tokens, at the same rates as in the editor, and failed generations are refunded.
