Best practices

What performs on every format Octapost publishes: specs, safe zones, hooks, captions and timing, with a checklist for each.

Each platform rewards different things, but the posts that do well share a pattern: they stop the scroll, deliver on that promise and give people a reason to act. This section turns that into concrete guidance for every post type Octapost publishes.

Five rules for every format

Whatever you post and wherever you post it, start here.

  1. 1

    Hook with the first frame

The first slide, second or line decides whether anyone sees the rest. Lead with the payoff, a bold claim or a question, never a logo or a slow intro.

  2. 2

    Keep a consistent look

Use the same fonts, colors and layout across slides and posts so people recognize you before they read your name. A brand kit in Octapost keeps every design on-brand.

  3. 3

    Tell a complete story

Every slide, scene or post in a thread should earn its place and move the idea forward. Cut anything that only repeats.

  4. 4

End with a call to action

Tell people exactly what to do next: save it, share it, comment, follow or tap the link. One action, stated plainly.

  5. 5

    Design for the phone

Almost everyone sees your post on a small screen with the app’s buttons on top. Use large text, high contrast and keep key content inside the safe zone.

How to use these guides

  • Start from the right size. In the image editor, pick the matching preset (Feed Vertical, Reels / Story, X Post, Pinterest Pin) so nothing gets cropped later.
  • Write once, then adapt. Draft the caption in the composer, then adjust it per platform: hashtags for Instagram and TikTok, a shorter hook for X, a stronger first line for LinkedIn.
  • Run the checklist before you schedule. Each guide ends with one. It takes a minute and catches the mistakes that cost the most reach.
  • Measure, then repeat what works. Compare posts of the same format in Analytics, and turn your best performer into a template.
