LinkedIn posts

Text, image and video posts for professionals: a strong first line, real insight and conversation in the comments.

LinkedIn rewards posts that professionals stop to read and discuss. Personal experience, clear opinions and useful lessons do better than announcements.

Five rules apply to every format: hook first, stay consistent, tell a complete story, end with a call to action and design for the phone. Read the five rules

Hook

  • Write a first line that earns “…more”. Only the first couple of lines show; make them specific and intriguing.
  • Lead with a lesson or a number. “We cut onboarding time in half. Here’s how.” beats “Excited to share…”.
  • Use an image that adds information. A chart, a screenshot or a real photo works better than stock imagery.

Design and edit

  • Square or vertical images. 1200 × 1200 takes more of the feed than landscape.
  • Multiple images tell a story. Use them for step-by-step processes or before-and-after.
  • Keep text on images minimal. The post copy carries the message.
  • Add captions to video. LinkedIn video autoplays on mute.

Caption and copy

  • Short paragraphs. One or two sentences each, with white space between them.
  • End with a question. Thoughtful comments extend a post’s reach.
  • Use two or three hashtags. Pick ones your audience follows.

Timing and cadence

  • Post on workdays. Your audience is on LinkedIn during the working week.
  • Stay for the comments. Reply in the first hour; early conversation helps the post travel.

What to measure

Impressions and reach show distribution; comments and shares show whether the post sparked discussion; clicks show interest in your link.
