Facebook posts
Text, photo, multi-photo, link and video posts for Facebook Pages that start conversations.
Facebook feed posts can be text, a link, one or more photos or a video. The posts that travel furthest are the ones people comment on and share with friends.
Five rules apply to every format: hook first, stay consistent, tell a complete story, end with a call to action and design for the phone. Read the five rules

Hook
- Lead with the most interesting line. Long posts are cut off after a few lines; make the opening earn the click on “See more”.
- Use vertical or square images. They take more of the feed than landscape images on a phone.
- Start a conversation. Questions and opinions invite comments; announcements rarely do.
Design and edit
- Design at 1080 × 1350 or 1080 × 1080. Use 1.91:1 only for link-style landscape images.
- Use real photos of real people. Authentic images outperform generic stock photos.
- Group related photos. A multi-photo post tells a story better than several single posts in a row.
- Add captions to video. Most feed video starts muted.
Caption and copy
- Write like a person. Short paragraphs and plain language read better than marketing copy.
- One link, clearly explained. Say what people will get when they tap it.
- Go easy on hashtags. One or two at most; they matter much less on Facebook.
Timing and cadence
- Reply to comments early. Replies in the first hour keep the conversation, and the post, alive.
- Post consistently. A regular schedule keeps your Page in your followers’ feeds.
What to measure
Reach and impressions show distribution; comments, shares and clicks show whether people engaged. A post with high reach and few clicks needs a clearer call to action.

How Octapost reports these metrics
Do it in Octapost
- Use the Feed Vertical or Feed Square preset in the image editor.
- Add up to ten photos to one post, or one video. A post can carry a link card or attachments, not both.
- Reply to comments from the Octapost inbox without opening Facebook.
Creating posts in the composer
